'Song Of The Sea' Scores Cesar Nomination For Best Animated Film

Fresh from its success at the Oscar and Annie Awards, Cartoon Saloon's much loved Song Of The Sea has scored yet another nomination for best animated film. This time it's the Cesar awards- the French equivalent of The Oscars. Tomm Moore's opus (know in France as La Chant De La Mer) is nominated against the more locally produced Jack And The Cuckoo-Clock Heart ( Jack et la Mécanique du Coeur) and Minuscule: Valley Of The Lost Ants (Minuscule - La vallée des fourmis perdues). Both of the Gallic films are computer animated.

Minuscule from directors Hélène Giraud and Thomas Szabo,  appears to be something of a Franco-Belgian take on A Bugs Life and Antz, featuring warring ant tribes. As well as its release in France last year it also had some festival screenings in the States late last year. Jack And The Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a French CGI effort based on a concept album from French rock band Dionysos (nope, us neither) and set oddly enough in Edinburgh, Scotland. US and Canadian readers can check out the English language version for themselves right now, as it's streaming on on Netflix.

The Cesars will take place on February 20th in Paris.
