Web Animation Watch: Celles et Ceux des Cimes et Cieuex, Captain Apple and more

Thanks to the new digital frontier of the internet, there's more animation available than ever before. But with so much material out there in this web-wild-west, how are you supposed to know what's worth your precious time? That's where we come in. Welcome to yet another Web Animation Watch!

How does a French animator's student film end up going viral in Japan? When you see it, it might  quickly become clear-  Celles et Ceux des Cimes et Cieuex is something rather special. The short is above all a homage to the work of Hayao Miyazaki. In just two and a half minutes, the beautiful animation packs in references to Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and more. It captures the feel of a Ghibli production, without slavishly copying the art style. Hell, it even features an appearance for a character who is a dead ringer for the director himself. Gwenn Germain is clearly a talent to watch.
