Cartoon Saloon's 'Eddie of The Realms Eternal' Now Streaming

The animation geniuses at Cartoon Saloon may be best known for their award-winning theatrical features, but they've also produced several television series. Most recently they produced Puffin Rock, which you can now find on Netflix on most regions. Their next TV project, however, is quite literally a world away.

Eddie of the Realms Eternal is part of Amazon's current Pilot season. Unlike rivals such as Netflix, Amazon commissions numerous pilots each year before deciding which will get full season orders. During each 'season', the pilots are released on Amazon video and viewers are asked for feedback. The decision to commission full seasons or not is made based on audience and critic reception- and of course viewing figures;

Viewers in the US and UK can now check out the pilot for free on Amazon or Amazon UK. You don't even have to be a Prime Video subscriber- although if it is does get a full season, you will need to be a subscriber to watch it.

The series sees normal American middle-schooler Eddie magically transported to a world inhabited by elves and giants, where he gets caught up in the schemes of the wicked Shadow Queen. It's fun, kid-friendly fantasy with solid writing and some great performances including John DiMaggio (who does a great English accent as it turns out) Kari Wahlgren and Grey Griffin.

Animation wise it's a winner, with the opening a particular stand-out. The designs are great (especially the Shadow Queen and her minions). Make sure to lend it your support if you want them to be able to make more.

The pilot is written by Bill Motz and Bob Roth- established names in TV animation who's credits include episodes of Penguins Of Madagascar, Phineas and Ferb and Darkwing Duck. Tomm Moore is listed among the producers.

The Pilot season also includes other animation shows, including sci-fi Everstar and a handful of shows aimed at younger kids. It's fantastic to see Amazon taking animation seriously, but we'd love to see them go into adult animation at some point.
