'In This Corner Of The World' Comes to UK and Ireland This June

In This Corner Of The World was one of Japanese animation's biggest sleeper hits of 2016. Your Name may have grabbed all the headlines, but Sunao Katabuchi's film went on to great success both commercially and critically. Despite opening on just 80 screens initially, positive word-of-mouth and glowing reviews ensured it stayed in the top ten for over four months, and has quietly earned over $20 million so far. It has gone one to win 22 awards -including the Japanese Academy Prize for Best Animation.

Over the coming months, audiences outside of Japan will get their chance to see it for themselves. Manga Entertainment have announced it will come to cinemas in the UK and Ireland from June 28th. Exclusive preview screenings will take place on this date, before expanding to further select venues from the 30th.

Further details- including participating cinemas- will be announced at a later date.

Based on the manga from Fumiyo Kouno, the story follows a young woman by the name of Suzu Urano, who moves to a small town in Hiroshima in 1944 to be with her husband's family. Her world is turned upside down when her town is bombed during the war.

"Her perseverance and courage underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country" Manga says. "This beautiful yet poignant tale shows that even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives."

In This Corner Of The World will also be released in the US and Canada this summer via Shout Factory.
