Primetime Emmys Nominate 'Archer', 'Adventure Time' 'Star Wars Rebels' and More

The Television Academy has announced the nominees for the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards. The so-called "Oscars of Television" sets out to reward excellence in all forms of Television, and that includes a handful of categories dedicated to animation.

The categories are Animated Program, Short Form Animated Program and Character Voice Over Performance. This year's Animated Program nominees are nearly identical to last year's  (and in fact, the year before that) with stalwarts The Simpsons and South Park joined by the current favourites Archer and Bob's Burgers. This year's surprise nominee is the Disney TV Movie Elena and the Secret of Avalor . a crossover event between Elena of Avalor and Sofia The First.

In the Short Form category, previous winner Adventure Time is nominated alongside Steven Universe, Teen Titans Go!, Mickey Mouse and Marvel's Rocket and Groot shorts. The only representation for Netflix's animated offerings can be found in the voice-over performance category, with BoJack Horseman and F For Family competing against the usual likes of Family Guy, Bob's Burgers and The Simpsons. It's an improvement on last year's embarrassment when they neglected to nominate a single female voice actor in the category.

Outside of the animation categories, Disney picked up another pair of nominations. Star Wars Rebels is nominated for Children's Program, while the song Jing-A-Ling-A-Ling from Duck The Halls won recognition in the Original Music and Lyrics.

The ceremony will take place Sunday, September 17 in Los Angeles.
