Games In Development: Genesis Noir

Here at AFA, we love showing support to independent projects whose mission is to create a piece that pushes visual expectations when it comes to animation. Whether it be an animated short, a feature film, or a video game, everyone has a story to tell.

One such story is that of Feral Cat Den. A collective of animators, designers and developers stationed in Brooklyn who are currently hard at work on their first independent project. An animated adventure game called "Genesis Noir."  A surreal noir adventure taking place before, during, and after the Big Bang. The game is currently is being developed in association with Surprise Attack Games. It is expected to be released for both Steam and console platforms.
The game stars No Man, a watch peddler stuck in a deterministic hell who gets caught up in lust and crime. When a love triangle between gods triggers the Big Bang, he sets out to explore the universe, witnesses the birth and history of mankind, finds comfort in a glass of gin and searches for a way to destroy creation.

Though the full game is still in development, a free web prolouge by the name of "Dusk 'Till Busk". was created in conjunction with Skillbard has already been released. This demo, while short, sets the game's tone and gives an accurate representation of how the game will function. Crafting constellations while No Man plays his guitar on a street corner, playing for money. Though the demo experience is slow to figure out, the controls are intuitive and you'd be surprised of how much time can be spent enjoying this short little piece.

At the time of this articles' release, a Kickstarter Campaign is currently ongoing. Though the creators have stated, that even should the Kickstarter fall through, they are committed to bringing this game to life.

Kickstarter rewards tiers include digital copies of the game, digital wall papers, pins, stickers, with backers at the Composer Tier (75$) having the option to have their musical creation from the web teaser included in the final game.

With inspirations including psychedelic poetry, afro jazz and Neil Degrasse Tyson, Genesis Noir seamlessly blends visual storytelling and delightful interaction. Laced with science, mythology and philosophy, players will visit black holes, primordial earth and jazz cafes in a quest to save their love by preventing the creation of the universe.

As of now Feral Cat Den has reached $30,000 of their $40,000 goal, with only three days left before the Kickstarter campaign ends.
