Studio Ghibli Releases Gorgeous New Images From 'When Marnie Was There'

In 2010, Arriety (released in the States as The Secret World Of Arriety) introduced us to a new Studio Ghibli talent in the form of Hiromasa Yonebayashi. With star director Hayao Miyazaki now retired, fans can't help but wonder what the future holds for Japan's finest animation studio. Thankfully, Arriety suggested that in the hands of the likes of Yonebayashi, maybe Ghibli can continue to flourish post-Miyazaki and Takahata. As a result, hopes are high for Yonebayashi's sophomore effort, the forthcoming When Marnie Was There.

Relocating Joan Robinson's original English novel to Japan's Hokkaido, the film will follow the friendship between a young girl name Anna and the mysterious blonde Marnie of the title. It will open in Japan on July 19th, but western release dates are yet to be confirmed. Over a number of days Studio Ghibli has been releasing exclusive (mostly) new images from the film, via their international twitter feed. We've brought them all together in one place for you, because we're awesome like that. You're welcome.  Click To Embiggen!
