'When Marnie Was There' Coming to Blu-Ray/DVD in the US this October, ''Only Yesterday' getting dubbed?

Hiromasa Yonebayashi's When Marnie Was There is to date, the last Studio Ghibli movie to be released. While the studio remains active in smaller projects, such as Miyazaki's Boro The Caterpillar, the fact remains that Marnie could be the Studio's final big screen feature release (sniff). The film received a cinema release in North America via GKIDS earlier this year. If however, you were unable to catch in on the big screen- we have good news, as the DVD and Blu-ray release has now got a release date.

According to the listing on Amazon, the date for your diary is October 6th 2015. The film will be released through Universal Home Entertainment and will be available on DVD or as a Blu-Ray DVD combo. The special features include a making-of documentary and feature-length storyboards. You can preorder the film here.

This isn't the only piece of Studio Ghibli movie news to break this week. Eagle-eyed folks at Rotoscopers noticed that Geoffrey Wexler (who produced the dub of From Up On Poppy Hill) has listed on his LinkedIn page that he is directing a dub of Only Yesterday. For anyone who doesn't know, Only Yesterday is a 1991 film directed by Princess Kaguya's Isao Takahata. The film is one of the few Ghibli films that has yet to be released in North America. If the information is correct (and it seems unlikely that he'd get it wrong) it points to a possible overdue US release. And GKIDS would seem to be the most likely candidates. Only Yesterday is available in the UK via StudioCanal.

Wexler also states he's worked on an English dub for Ronja The Rober's Daughter- the TV series co-produced by Ghibli and Polygon Pictures and directed by Goro "son of Hayao" Miyazaki. Could we see an announcement about this too in the near future?
