Watch This: 'Loving Vincent' Trailer Brings Van Gogh's Art To Life

Loving Vincent is not your average biographical drama. The film aims to bring the work of the revered artist Vincent Van Gogh to life through the medium of animation. While we're not quite sure about the film-maker's claims that this is the "first fully painted feature film in the world" (what do you call cel animation then?) we're still very intrigued.

Coming from Polish studio BreakThru films, directors Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman are looking to celebrate the artist's life and work through a film that painstakingly recreates his style. Over 100 artists worked on the film,  producing an impressive 12 oil paintings a minute between them. The finished result promises to be pretty stunning if the trailer is anything to go by. Sure, it's never going to be as smooth as more traditionally animated films, but this is looking amazing by any standards. This is an animated feature unlike anything attempted before.

This UK/Poland co-production was partly Kickstarter-funded, and while it may seem like a small independent feature, it nonetheless boasts an impressive voice cast (of mainly British and Irish actors) including Saorise Ronan,  The I.T. Crowd's Chris O'Dowd and  Jerome Flynn (Bronn from Game Of Thrones). Lets just hope the story will live up to the promise of those beautiful visuals.

Loving Vincent's UK release in penciled in for sometime in 2016, so we shouldn't have to wait too long to find out. No US release has been confirmed at this time. Watch the trailer below.
