LA Film Fest Hosts 'In This Corner Of The World' US Premiere

Sunao Katabuchi's anime feature In This Corner Of The World was arguably the most critically acclaimed animated film released in Japan last year. It even beat the record-breaking hit Your Name to the Animated Feature Of The Year award at the Japan Academy Prizes.  This summer, the film will begin to play to international audiences at last.

The film is already set to screen at this year's Annecy International Animation Festival on June 12, and will open in limited release from Manga Entertainment/Animatsu in the United Kingdom on June 28. It's now been confirmed that in-between the two, the US premiere will take place at the LA Film Festival on June 20,

It's set to screen in competition, as part of the World Fiction strand. Currently, it appears to be the only animated film screening- although the documentary features Abu and Monkey Business incorporate animated sequences.

It's still pretty rare for animated films to get the chance to compete on a level playing field with live-action film at this level at festivals. If In This Corner Of The World actually managed to win the category, that would be even more impressive.

Tickets to the screening will go on sale at 10 AM on May 23. The film will then receive a limited cinema release in the US via Shout Factory this summer (date to be announced). Meanwhile, tickets to the screenings in the UK are available now.
