Bizarre Trailer Drops For Netflix's 'Neo Yokio'.

Netflix is an unusual company in that they will occasionally surprise us by revealing a new series or movie just ahead of its release on their service. Case in point: the new animated Netflix Original Neo Yokio, which may be the most bizarre thing you will see today.

If you told us an American animated series was being produced in collaboration with anime studios Production IG and Studio DEEN, we'd probably get quite excited. That's just what Neo Yokio is (South Korea's MOI is also involved) but we would never have imagined something quite like this.

The series is created and directed by Ezra Koenig (lead singer of the band Vampire Weekend) and features the voices of Jaden Smith, Jude Law, Susan Sarandon, Stephen Fry, Richard Ayoade and more. It's pretty clear that is some kind of a parody of anime tropes, but (and your mileage may vary) there doesn't seem to be anything particularly funny here- aside, perhaps for the whole WTF factor of the whole venture.

Reaction online seems to have been largely negative, with some even comparing the visuals to those found in Christopher Hart's How To Draw Manga series. Still, it's not fair to judge without having seen it.. so who knows?

The six episode series will arrive on Netflix everywhere on September 22.
