GKIDS Bring Masaaki Yuasa's 'Night Is Short, Walk On Girl' to The US This August

This year has been quite something for US-based fans of Masaaki Yuasa. It has already seen the release of Devil Man Crybaby and his first family feature Lu Over The Wall- and there's still more to come. Incredibly, Yuasa had two features released in Japanese cinemas last year, and now GKIDS Films have announced a US release date for the second, The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl.

GKIDS is once again teaming up with Fathom Events to bring the film to a wide audience nationwide as a limited event. This will be the second of several titles (outside of the ongoing Ghibli Fest) that the two companies will be teaming up to bring to US audiences this year. It will screen for two nights, on August 21 and 22, accompanied by an exclusive interview with Yuasa himself. All screenings will be at 7:00 PM local time and will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles.

The special screening will be in tandem with a standard limited release of the film by GKIDS, kicking off on August 22.

Night Is Short is a surreal trip of a movie following a young woman known only as "the girl with the black hair" as she experiences the strangest night of her life. The film has connections with Yuasa's popular TV series The Tatami Galaxy- sharing a screenwriter, character designer, and being based on a book by the same author. We published a review on its release in the UK late last year.
