Lord and Miller Spill Early 'Lego Movie 2', 'Ninjago' Details.

The sequel to Phil Lord and Chris Miller's 2014 brickbuster is still a long way off, not arriving until 2018. And we've got two more Lego flavoured movies before that, with Ninjago and Lego Batman, arriving in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Nonetheless, Lord and Miller have been chatting to Empire and updated us on progress with the sequel. Last year it was confirmed Lord and Miller would be scripting the sequel, but it's likely they will be handing the directorial reigns over to somebody else.

The plot will apparently pick up four years after the original and will follow some of the same characters. If you've seen the original, you'll know the ending shook things up, so that will have ramifications in the sequel. We're not going to spoil it here, but you can read the full interview for details. Lord and Miller have also previously promised the sequel will feature more "female characters and more female stuff".

The interview also featured some intriguing teases for next year's Ninjago- a movie many may have written off as a kids-only prospect. Lord enthused about seeing footage from the film, saying "watching  [Director] Charlie Bean’s sequences for Ninjago is so gratifying because he’s able to make it play without any dialogue and has a really great visual style."

Ninjago will be released in October 2016,  The Lego Batman Movie in February 2017 and The Lego Movie 2 sometime in 2018.
