'Phineas and Ferb', 'Archer' and more Nominated for Emmy Awards

This year's Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 18th 2016, as the entertainment industry assembles to recognise achievement in television. This year's nominees have been revealed, and as always there's a couple of categories relevant to animation.

In the Outstanding Animated Program category the Phineas and Ferb series finale Last Day of Summer picked up a nomination,  alongside adult animation series Archer, South Park, Bob's Burgers and- of course- The Simpsons.

Conversely, in the Animated Short Program Robot Chicken is the only adult-orientated series nominated. The rest of the category is dominated by Cartoon Network, with Adventure Time, Steven Universe and the rebooted Powerpuff Girls. The final slot goes to another long-running show, with Spongebob Squarepants.

In the voice-over category, both Matt Stone and Trey Parker are nominated for South Park, and Seth MacFarlane gets his usual nod for Family Guy. Keegan- Michael Key and Chris Pine round out a notably all-male lineup, picking up nods for Supermansion. The normally represented Simpsons is notably absent here, as indeed is literally every female voice actor.

Elsewhere, animation is represented by another nomination for The Simpsons for sound editing and for It's Your 50th Christmas Charlie Brown in the children's category.
