'Princess Mononoke' Will Return to US Cinemas in January 2017

This month Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away has returned to US cinemas, to celebrate its 15th anniversary, courtesy of GKIDS and Fathom Events. This limited event proved rather popular, earning over $800,000 on its first day alone and leading to a third night being added to the original two day only event. Now GKIDS are teaming up with Fathom again to bring back Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke to cinemas too.

The film will screen over two nights Thursday, January 5th and Monday, January 9th 2017 at 7pm Local Time. The first screening will be in English-dubbed format, and the second will screen in the original language, subtitled version.

The screening is honouring two events: Miyazaki's birthday and the fact that 2017 will be the 20th anniversary of Princess Mononoke's original release.

On Your Mark

Not only is this a rare chance to catch one of the finest animated movies ever made on the big screen- as it was meant to be seen- but it will also screen alongside a rarely seen part of the Studio Ghibli Catalogue.  On Your Mark is an acclaimed animated short/music video produced by Ghibli for a Japanese band called Chage & Aska. This  Miyazaki directed short, released in 1995, has rarely been seen outside Japan, and will screen in the US for the first time as part of this event.
