Disney Reveals Gorgeous First Look Art From 'Moana', Coming 2016

We're a few short months from the release of Disney Animation's next, Big Hero 6, but the House Of Mouse is already talking about the future. Next up will be fuzzy critter based Zootopia in early 2016, but Disney have announced that their next film after that will follow later the same year. What's more, it will be coming from some of the biggest names in the business.

Moana, will be Disney's 56th feature and will hit cinemas in late 2016. The CG animation is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker- the duo behind Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and The Frog. It's already generating some excitement for it's unusual South Pacific setting.  Centering on the titular teen, it seems to be a rather different take on the usual Disney Princess. It's certainly refreshing to see a protagonist who is a world away from the usual western fairytale focus (and even a person of colour). You can check out the first concept art above. We can't wait to see more!

The Offical Synopsis (via Slash Film)

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated comedy-adventure about a spirited teenager on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors’ quest. A born navigator, Moana sets sail from the ancient South Pacific islands of Oceania in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker, Moana arrives in theaters in late 2016.
