GKIDS Release Official US 'When Marnie Was There' Trailer.

Animation fans are being spoiled for trailers this week. Just a few days ago we got our first look at the Subtitled version of  Studio Ghibli's latest When Marnie Was There in the Aussie trailer. Not to be outdone, North American distributor GKIDS has now released the sublime first US trailer for the film.

The trailer gives us our first listen of the high-calibre English cast led by Hailee Steinfeld, Geena Davis and John C Reilly. It's a beautifully put together trailer that gives you a good look at the typically stunning animation and introduces the plot, without apparently giving too much away. If  this does turn out to be the final film from the legendary studio (and we certainly hope it won't be), then Hiromasa Yonebayashi's film looks like it'll be a fitting swansong.

When Marnie Was There opens in New York and LA from May 22nd. The trailer and official synopsis are below.

"Sent from her foster home in the city one summer to a sleepy town by the sea in Hokkaido, Anna dreams her days away among the marshes. She believes she’s outside the invisible magic circle to which most people belong – and shuts herself off from everyone around her, wearing her “ordinary face”. Anna never expected to meet a friend like Marnie, who does not judge Anna for being just what she is. But no sooner has Anna learned the loveliness of friendship than she begins to wonder about her newfound friend… "
