Unacceptable! 'Adventure Time' Will End in 2018

Not long after we found out that Regular Show would be ending, it has been announced that the hugely successful Adventure Time is also going to be coming to a close. Cartoon Network's flagship series has been running since 2010 and has been popular with audiences and critics alike, bagging six Emmys and even a Peabody Award. Fans can take some comfort that the end is still some way off though, as the series will air two more full seasons, before wrapping up after season 9 in 2018.

This will give the show-runners plenty of time to finish the story properly, tie up loose ends and hopefully give the series the send-off it deserves. The remaining seasons will also apparently contain special episodes and mini-series (in the vein of Stakes).

This does raise the question of what will happen with the previously announced Adventure Time Movie. Will it happen after the show concludes? Maybe as a last hurrah? Or has the film been cancelled as well? Hopefully, we'll know the answer before long.

Original creator Pendelton Ward said of the show "Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think."

It has certainly been a big part of the TV animation landscape for the past six years, and it'll be a shame to see it go. At the same time, it's great to see the network seem to be giving it a chance to go out on its own terms. With this and Regular Show ending, it really feels like the end of an era.

Adventure Time's eighth season is expected to premiere in 2016.
