'Moominvalley' Behind The Scenes Clip Released

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, Tove Jansson's beloved Moomin characters are set to return to our screens next year in the new series Moominvalley. We've previously seen some beautiful concept art- which has already got us excited. Now, Gutsy Animation have released a new video which gives non-backers their first look behind the scenes on the new series- and the first look at the show's animation style too.

We think you'll agree that this is looking like something special. It may not be finished footage, but from what we get to see, it looks like it is living up to the promise of that concept art. It seems to be using a visual style which combines the best aspects of CG and more traditional techniques to produce something new. There have been plenty of previous adaptations of Jansson's work over the years- but this looks like it might just have captured the look and spirit of the original works better than ever before. Check out the video below.

The series is being produced by Sweden's Gutsy Animation in association with public broadcaster YLE in Finland and Sky One in the UK. It's got an impressive creative team behind it, with Oscar-winning Steve Box (Wallace and Gromit: Curse Of The Were-Rabbit) directing and Emmy-winning writing team  Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler on script duty, alongside Josie Ward. The voice cast will feature Taron Egerton, Rosamund Pike, Akiya Henry, Matt Berry and Kate Winslet. Moominvalley's first series will debut in 2019.
