MFKZ Coming To UK Cinemas Via Manga This October

Last month GKIDS Films announced that they would be bringing the French/Japanese adult animated feature MFZK (aka Mutafukaz) to cinemas in the US. UK based distributor Manga Entertainment has now confirmed that British audiences will also be getting a chance to see the film.

MFKZ is a collaboration between French studio Ankama Animation ( known for Wakfu and Dofus) and the acclaimed Japanese Studio 4°C  (The Animatrix, Tekkonkinkreet) . Based on a French comic-book by an artist known as Run, it promises to be a unique mash-up of western and eastern influences.

Genre-mashup MFKZ is the love-child of French comic artist Guillaume “Run” Renard and ultra-hip Japanese animation house, Studio 4°C, creators of Tekkonkinkreet, Genius Party and Mind Game. The Tekkonkinkreet dream team of Shoujirou Nishimi and art director Shinji Kimura reunite to bring to life a dark but stunningly animated sci-fi vision that mixes anime, film noir, Lucha Libre, and gang culture in an orgy of first-person shooter mayhem.
The film centers on young Angelino and his skull-and-flame pal Vinny, who live in a seedy tenement in an LA-inspired dystopian metropolis – a burnt-out, gang and cockroach-ridden neo-urban hell that makes Blade Runner’s LA seem like The Brady Bunch. Following a scooter accident Angelino starts experiencing migraines and strange hallucinations, as well as fits of rage-inspired superpowers, as he slowly awakens to the truth of his origins: he is half human and half Macho, a supernatural alien race that is bent on taking over the planet

"We’re working closely with multiple distributors to roll out a synchronised cinematic release across English speaking territories,” says Andrew Hewson, Manga/Animatu's Marketing Manager. "It’s an amazingly creative and compelling project - a true mash-up of genres, influences and styles. We are really excited for audiences to see it!"

MFKZ will be in select cinemas in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 11, including in a new English language version. Further release details will be revealed soon.
