First 'Toy Story 4' Teaser Arrives

It would be fair to say that many people are anticipating the upcoming Toy Story 4 with something of a mix of excitement and trepidation. After all, 2010's Toy Story 3 was pretty much the perfect ending to the series. It's hard to imagine that a new film could top, or even equal it. But then again- that's what we thought after Toy Story 2.

The fourth film has been through many issues behind the scenes- such as the departure of original writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack- causing it to be pushed back two years from its original intended 2017 release date. Josh Cooley (director of short Riley's First Date) will make his feature directorial debut on the movie. Disgraced former Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter was originally set to direct, although his departure from the film predates the revelations.

Now the first teaser is here, will it help ease our concerns? It's still too early to say. This is very much just a teaser and gives us very little idea of what to expect from the finished film. It is, however absolutely beautifully made- as you would expect from Pixar. No matter how cynical you might feel about this fourth film, you're still likely to feel awash with nostalgia at getting to see the characters again- and looking better than we've ever seen before, thanks to the advances in CG since 2010.

It also introduces us to a new character, who, shall we say is a little bit... unexpected?  We'll say no more... check it out for yourself, below. Toy Story 4 arrives in cinemas in June 2019.

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”), Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
