'Rocko's Modern Life' and 'Invader Zim' Movies Coming To Netflix

A few years back, Nickelodeon announced that they were going to be resurrecting a number of their most beloved series of the past. So far though, only Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie has actually aired. In a surprising move, Nick has now announced that two of the previously announced TV movies will be premiering not on the network but on Netflix instead.

Rocko's Modern Life Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus will both hit the world's leading subscription streaming site this summer. Static Cling will bring Joe Murray's hapless Wallaby into today's world to see how he reacts to life in the 21st century. Meanwhile, Invader Zim will have his confidence shaken when he discovers his superiors have no intention of coming to Earth. Both movies see the return of their creators, key creatives and the majority of their original voice casts.

This follows the news that movies based on Nick series Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Loud House would be coming to Netflix. So it would seem that this is a new strategy for the network. It seems like a pretty shrewd one too, as through Netflix they will be able to reach a much larger audience. As big names like Disney, Apple and Warner Media prepare to launch their streaming services and the market becomes increasingly fragmented smaller players like Nick are in danger of getting left behind. We'd expect to see more deals like this in the future as media companies begin to adapt to a changing landscape.

It's not yet clear if the movies will be exclusive to Netflix or if they will air on TV eventually, or be available elsewhere.
