Emmy Nominations Include 'Love Death & Robots',' Adventure Time' 'BoJack Horseman' and More

The nominations for the 71st Prime Time Emmys are here to celebrate the "best" in the American Television industry. Only of course, as is always the way with such things, opportunities for animated programs to be recognised are somewhat limited. It would be nice to think that one day, animated shows will be considered in categories outside the animation ghetto- able to compete in areas like writing, music and best comedy, alongside live-action fare. In the meantime, we'll just have to be satisfied with the animation specific categories

Since 2008, the Outstanding Animated Program has been divided into the Short-Form category and the Outstanding Animated Program. This year Adventure Time graduates from the Short Form category to the Outstanding Animated Program category for its hour-long finale, Come Away With Me. Last year's short-form winner Robot Chicken scores its ninth nomination, Steven Universe its fifth, SpongeBob its fourth and Teen Titans Go its third. New this year is Netflix's adult animated anthology series Love Death & Robots.

In the long-form category, Adventure Time is joined by regulars The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers,- The Simpsons on its 27th nomination, and Bob's Burgers is on its eighth. Netflix Animation make their first mark on the category this year, with the first nominations for both BoJack Horseman and Big Mouth.

Netflix also crashed the party in the Best Character Voice-Over performance with a nod for F is For Family, which is otherwise dominated by established series like Family Guy and The Simpsons. Netflix's Carmen Sandiego reboot also makes the cut in the Children's Category, alongside Disney's Star Wars Resistance.
