'She-Ra' Season 5, Transformers, 'A Whisker Away' and More

In our latest animation news updates, we've got trailers for new stuff from Netflix and Hulu, news on a new animated Transformers movie and more!

Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley has reportedly signed on to direct an animated Transformers prequel for Paramount and Hasbro. The franchise has had fresh life breathed into it (creatively if not in terms of box-office) by an animation director with Bumblebee, so this is arguably the next step. The movie will focus on Optimus Prime and Megatron back on Cybertron, with a script by Antman and The Wasp scribes Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

The trailer has dropped for the fifth and final season of DreamWorks and Netflix's She-Ra and The Princesses Of Power, streaming from May 15

You can't see any films in a real cinema right now, but if you have a compatible VR headset, maybe you can do the next best thing. Funimation is teaming up with Bigscreen, a service which screens movies in virtual cinemas. You'll be able to watch a selection of Funimation's feature films including Your Name,  Akira and My Hero Academia: Two Heroes on the virtual big screen, either as streaming events or on-demand.

Check out the NSFW trailer for Crossing Swords a new Hulu stop-motion adult animation from Robot Chicken producers John Harvatine IV and Tom Root. Set in a fictionalised middle ages, it stars Nicholas Hoult as a peasant who becomes a squire at the local castle.  All episodes will be available on June 12.

Annecy will be one of 20 festivals from around the world, including Cannes and Tribecca taking part in We Are One, a free digital global festival on YouTube. It's set to include feature films, shorts, documentaries and panels streaming for free and without ads. It will run from May 29-June 7 and programming details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

A Whisker Away the new film from Penguin Highway's Studio Colorido and Maquia writer Mari Okada has scrapped its Japanese cinema release and will now debut on Netflix globally on June 18.

The new episodes of Rick and Morty will screen on the UK's E4 less than a week after their US airing, starting from May 7 at 10pm. This will be followed by the UK premiere of DC's Harley Quinn. Both titles will also be available streaming via All4.
