Out This Week: Ride Your Wave, Promare, Mob Psycho 100 II and More

As we enter another month, we're still in what is traditionally one of the quietest times for new entertainment releases. But while this week does feature fewer new animation titles than average, there's more than enough quality to make up for the lack in quantity. Visionary anime auteur Masaaki Yuasa's latest lucid dream of a film Ride Your Wave is available to buy this week for US readers, as is the deluxe collector's edition of Trigger's breakout hit Promare (already available in the UK, see below for our review). In the UK meanwhile, fans of the Mob Psycho 100 and Fate/Stay Night franchises can pick up their latest instalments.

This Week's Featured Release:

Promare Collector's Edition Blu-Ray (GKIDS Films/ Shout Factory)

Despite it being Studio Trigger’s first feature film, Promare burned its way into US theaters for multiple re-releases in theaters. Proving that the film has found quite a large audience overseas. With the release of the film’s collector's edition, fans of the movie will have a lot more to enjoy than just the film itself. Along with cast interviews, and both short films, the collector's edition comes with a 52-page booklet (highlighting the character designs, background artists and other fun film trivia), the complete soundtrack composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, and a souvenir script of the English version of the film. In my experience, I have been left disappointed by collector’s edition re-packaging of favorite movies. Not nearly getting enough extra content that makes it worth the high price tag. So imagine my surprise when I found myself smiling ear to ear as I went through each added booklet. Not to mention having access to the movie’s addictive soundtrack. If you’re a fan of Promare, do not sleep on this collectors edition. It is well worth the buy. Read our original full review of the film here. Rachael Ward
