SDCC 2021: Blade Runner Black Lotus First Trailer and Poster Released.


The iconic SanDiego ComicCon returns for its second SDCC@Home edition this month, streaming virtual panels for everything geeky via YouTube for free from July 23-25.

On Friday Adult Swim and Crunchyroll presented a first detailed look at their upcoming anime co-production Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki (series directors) were joined on the panel by producer Joseph Chou, voice director Wes Gleason and actor Jessica Henwick (voice of the lead character, Elle) and Toonami co-creator/ Adult Swim creative director Jason DeMarco to discuss what we can expect from the series when it launches later this year. 

They discussed bringing the world of the classic sci-fi noir franchise into animation, and why they chose CGI as the medium to do it. The panel concluded with the revealing of the first trailer and new key art. 

The series is set in 2032, between the events of the two Blade Runner movies. It will arrive later this year, with the English version set to screen on the Toonami block on Adult Swim in the US, with the Japanese version set to stream internationally (outside of Asia) on Crunchyroll. The series will run for an initial 13 episodes .Cowboy Bebop's Shinichiro Watanabe (who also directed short Blade Runner Black Out 2022) is also involved as  creative producer.

It was also revealed that the series will feature new music by singer-songwriter Alessia Cara, and her new track Feel You Now is featured in the trailer. Her music will also be used for the show's intro.

The voice cast features Jessica Henwick, Will Yun Lee, Samira Wiley, Barkhad Abdi, Peyton ListWes Bentley and Brian Cox (the actor, not the 90's pop star turned physicist).
