Disney Plus Announces New Short Circuit Episodes, New Goofy Shorts

An unexpected development in the revolution in streaming video has been the increasing prominence of animated shorts. It's only fitting that Disney should be one of the companies getting behind this trend, as it was the animated short that established the House Of Mouse in the first place. Disney Plus is home to one of the biggest libraries of shorts of any streaming service, including not only many of their classic shorts but also releasing brand new shorts on a regular basis.

Short Circuit is Walt Disney Animation Studios in-house experimental shorts program. In a similar initiative to Pixar's SparkShorts, any member of staff is invited to pitch an idea for a short film. The program allows new voices and fresh talent a chance to tell their stories and will hopefully help lead to a more varied and diverse future for the studio.

The program is celebrating five years since its inception and is marking the occasion with five brand new shorts. The films represent a range of visual styles and techniques and come from filmmakers from various different departments within Disney Animation. The new shorts will stream on Disney Plus from August 4, 2021.

The shorts are described as follows:

Dinosaur Barbarian (Directed by Kim Hazel)
Battling evil is all in a day's work for Dinosaur Barbarian, but what about taking out the trash? Sometimes even a superhero needs to clean up his act.

Going Home (Directed by Jacob Frey)
A story about growing up and the meaning of home in which a young adult repeatedly visits his hometown, but with every new arrival he starts to face the inevitable: change.

Crosswalk (Directed by Ryan Green)
A law-abiding citizen must find his inner strength to cross the street at a light that won't change.

Songs to Sing in the Dark (Directed by Riannon Delanoy)
Two creatures living in the depths of a dark cave engage in a battle of acoustic one-upmanship. As things escalate, they come to realize that they are stronger together.

No. 2 to Kettering (Directed by Liza Rhea)
On a dreary, ordinary morning, a girl learns how the power of laughter can lift even the most sullen among her fellow bus riders along their journey to Kettering.
