Netflix Tease Anime Slate For Spring 2022 and Beyond


Netflix
has in a relatively short space of time, established itself as one of the leading investors in Japanese animation. It has proved to be one of its most popular categories and so its commitment to anime is only going to grow. As part of the Anime Japan event, the streaming giant has been teasing its packed slate that will encompass 40 exclusive titles in 2022 alone.

""Anime is one of the cornerstones of our investment in Japan, watched by nearly 90 percent of our members here last year. At the same time, interest in anime has grown worldwide, and more than half of our members globally tuned into it last year,"  Kohei Obara, Netflix's Director, Anime Creative, said.

"From diversifying our slate to bringing back fan favourites, we want to continue growing our members’ discovery and love for anime, both in Japan and around the world with this next chapter of anime on Netflix."
 

As part of their presentation, they revealed more details and release details for a number of their previously announced shows, which include both new and returning series. These include new seasons of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, Ghost In The Shell SAC_2045 and Ultraman, as well as brand new titles including movies  Bubble, Drifting Home and Spriggan and series such as Wit Studio's upcoming Vampire In The Garden. Kotaro Lives Alone

"Selling over 1.5 million copies, Mami Tsumura’s manga Kotaro Lives Alone is Japan’s most heartwarming comedy. Ding-dong! There is a little boy standing at the door.  He hands over a nice box of tissues as a gift and says, “My name is Sato, and I have just moved in to number 203. Pleased to make your acquaintance.” He is Kotaro Sato, and he has moved into Shimizu Apartments to live by himself. He is four years old. He makes his daily shopping trips alone with a toy sword strapped to his side. Both grown-up and childish at the same time, Kotaro starts to affect the people around him with his wise ways. This is the story of a four-year-old boy who is determined to live strong until the day he can live with his parents."


Thermae Romae Novae

"Mari Yamazaki's manga masterpiece Thermae Romae, winner of the Cartoon Grand Prize 2010 and the Short Story Award at the 14th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, is finally being adapted into a Netflix original anime as  Thermae Romae Novae! Mari Yamazaki herself will also be participating in the series as series composer. This fantastical bathhouse comedy tells the story of Lucius, a young man struggling as a bathhouse designer in the Roman Empire who somehow ends up time travelling between ancient Rome and present-day Japan and incorporating Japan’s bath culture in the designs of his own Roman thermae.



Baki Hanma

Netflix Says: "Baki Hanma, the third part of the anime series based on the hit martial arts manga Baki by Keisuke Itagaki. The first two seasons of Baki were previously released on Netflix, starting with Baki in 2018, and continuing with the Great Raitai Tournament Saga in 2020. At the end of the Great Raitai Tournament Saga, Baki challenges Yujiro, the man known as “the strongest creature on Earth.” Yujiro accepts this challenge, and in doing so, recognizes that Baki is a fitting opponent. The stage is set for the explosive events of the ultimate father-son grudge match in the third season of the Baki series, Baki Hanma. After overcoming countless intense battles with powerful enemies, the time is finally ripe for Baki to face his father, Yujiro Hanma, who is said to be “the strongest creature on Earth.” Before this battle, Baki chooses Biscuit Oliva—also known as Mr. Unchained—as an appropriate sparring partner.
Oliva is currently incarcerated in a prison called the “Black Pentagon,” home to only the most violent criminals. In order to fight Oliva, Baki gets himself imprisoned in the Black Pentagon. However, in addition to his desired sparring partner, a number of terrifying fighters also await him here!!"

Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world."

Kakegurui Twin

The anime series Kakegurui is set at the illustrious Hyakkaou Private Academy, where the hierarchy is controlled by gambling. The protagonist Yumeko Jabami and her friend Mary Saotome take on the Hyakkaou student council by gambling against them. This popular title has been adapted into an anime twice before: the TV anime Kakegurui in 2017, and the TV anime Kakegurui xx in 2019, and it has earned passionate fans not only in Japan, but also around the world. Finally, the long-awaited new series Kakegurui Twin is now in the works, with a worldwide release set for August 2022, only on Netflix! This series tells the story of Mary Saotome’s gambling feats one year before Yumeko Jabami transferred to her school. The story begins with Mary Saotome, a normal girl, entering the academy.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge Of Edinburgh Part 1

With over 37 million copies sold and winning in the children’s category of the 39th Kodansha Manga Award, the mega-hit The Seven Deadly Sins (original work: Nakaba Suzuki) is receiving a spin-off anime film. This film will feature an original story by Suzuki. Split into two parts, the story will follow Tristan, the son of The Seven Deadly Sins protagonists Meliodas and Elizabeth. Tristan inherits the power of the Goddess Clan and can heal people's wounds and injuries, but he often ends up hurting others due to his inability to control his Demon Clan power. To protect his family, Tristan heads to Edinburgh Castle and meets a host of new friends along the way.
