2023 Oscar Nominations Announced

When it comes to awards, there are still no more prestigious or with the name recognition as The Academy Awards otherwise known as the Oscars. And now the wait for the nominations for the 95th Oscars is over.

This year's nominations for Best Animated Feature are Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio,  Pixar's Turning Red,  Marcell The Shell With Shoes On, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and The Sea Beast

Despite the fact that Disney and Pixar have dominated the category in the past, Pinocchio has to be the favourite to win. Del Toro's film has already won 47 awards elsewhere, so it wouldn't be a shock to see it pick up another one. It's been picking up Best Animated Feature awards all over the awards circuit. Turning Red meanwhile has picked up just 4 so far. The nominees are much the same as we've already seen elsewhere this awards season, with the one notable exception being Netflix's The Sea Beast. However. Pinocchio hasn't repeated the feat of scoring nominations outside of the animation category (for original score and production design) as it has at other awards. No other animated film has either  (unless you count Avatar: The Way Of Water which has several including best picture). Pixar's Lightyear and Disney's Strange World join the small number of films from their studios not to be nominated. Other notable absences are Henry Selick's Wendell and Wild and Cartoon Saloon's My Father's Dragon, their first film not to be nominated

Meanwhile, the nominations for Best Animated Short are The Boy The Mole The Fox And The Horse, The Flying Sailor, Ice Merchants, My Year Of Dicks and An Ostrich Told Me The The World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.

The nominees for Visual Effects are All Quiet On The Western Front, Avatar: The Way Of Water, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Top Gun: Maverick.

The 95th Annual Academy Awards take place on Sunday, March 12.
