Crunchyroll Announce 'Demon Slayer :To The Swordsmith Village' Cinema Release

We're living through something of a golden age for anime in cinemas. The modern fan can see more Japanese animated features on the big screen. And the next to be announced is the latest instalment of the Demon Slayer franchise.

Crunchyroll and Aniplex Of America have announced the theatrical release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village in the UK and Ireland on March 1 as part of an event screening worldwide. The film will be released in the US and Canada on March 3. The event comprises of episodes nine and ten of the Entertainment District Arc and an extended episode one of the highly anticipated Swordsmith Village Arc combined in one theatrical feature-length experience remastered in 4K.

In other words, this is a compilation movie, featuring previously screened material repackaged for cinema release. This is common practice for popular series in Japan, although they don't make their way west that often. However, this will be your first chance to see the first episode of season three.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba follows Tanjiro as he trains to become a demon slayer after his family are brutally slain. The series is adapted from the manga by Koyoharu Gotoge, which has over 150 million copies in circulation in Japan.  The anime has so far consisted of two seasons and a movie, with a third season set for release in April of 2023.

After his family is viciously murdered, a kind-hearted boy named Tanjiro Kamado resolves to become a Demon Slayer in hopes of turning his younger sister Nezuko back into a human.

Together with his comrades, Zenitsu and Inosuke, along with one of the top-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen Uzui, Tanjiro embarks on a mission within the Entertainment District, where they encounter the formidable, high-ranking demons, Daki and Gyutaro.

A sold-out premiere is taking place in Los Angeles on Februray 18 at the historic Orpheum theatre. There will be appearances by Natsuki Hanae, the Japanese voice of main character Tanjiro Kamado, and Aniplex producer Yuma Takahashi, as well as a performance from musical act Aimer.

The special screening is part of the Demon Slayer World Tour, which kicks off with a two-day event in Tokyo followed by events in Paris, Berlin, Seoul, Mexico City Taipei and more. Find out more information on the world tour here.

Tickets are on sale now or from February 17 in the UK.
