British Animation Awards Nominations Announced

This coming weekend sees the Annie Awards, the Hollywood animation industry's major awards ceremony. Also coming up are the biannual British Animation Awards, the UK's equivalent. This year's ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at NFT1, BFI Southbank, London. This year's nominations were revealed on February 14.

The major nominees with multiple nominations include Kensuke's Kingdom, Cartoon Saloon's Puffin Rock And The New Friends (an Irish/Northern Irish co-production, hence it's eligible), The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse,  Lloyd Of The Flies, Dead End: Paranormal Park and Mog's Christmas. Kensuke's Kingdom, adapted from the novel by Michael Morpurgo and directed by Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry leads all categories with four nominations.

Aardman's Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget is the highest profile nominee in the Best Feature Film, which also features Kensuke's Kingdom, Puffin Rock And The New Friends, A Cat Called Dom and The Amazing Maurice.

An Audience Award will also be announced on the night. The winning film will have received the most votes from audiences at 14 screenings throughout the UK held at animation universities and other organizations.

Uniquely, the BAA does not give winners trophies, but instead gifts them a unique piece of original art. This year, the artwork will all be created by British animation director Derek Hayes.
