Crunchyroll Anime Award Winners Announced

We've seen numerous awards ceremonies take place already this year. The VES Awards, Annies and BAFTAs all happened in the last month alone. On Saturday, March 2, in Tokyo, Japan the 8th annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards were live-streamed to fans across the world via Twitch and YouTube.

Presented by voice actress Sally Amaki and (apparently) 'popular entertainer' Jon Kabira, awards were presented across 33 categories. The winners were selected by the public, who entered a record-breaking 34 million votes. Awards were presented by celebrity anime fans including recording artist Megan Thee Stallion, Ms Marvel star Iman Vellani, Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Across The Spider-Verse co-director Joaquim Dos Santos, Japanese singer LiSA, NFL star DeMarcus Lawrence, WWE champion Mercedes Varnado, director Bong Joon Ho and Bollywood star Rashmika Mandanna.



Fans were also treated to a number of musical performances including the premiere of the Anime Awards Theme Song, composed by acclaimed composers Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack On Titan, Solo Leveling) and Kohta Yamamoto (Attack On Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins). Also performed was the iconic Battlecry from the series Samurai Champloo, in celebration of the series's 20th anniversary. Japanese pop duo Yoasobi performed their Anime Award winning track Idol.

Big winners included Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, which took home an impressive 10 awards including the all-important Anime Of The Year, Best Action and Best Character Design. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc was awarded Best Animation, Best Art Direction and Best Fantasy. Attack On Titan Final Season: The Final Chapters won for Best Drama and Best Score. Spy x Family season 2 won Best Comedy and "Must Protect At All Costs" Character for Anya Folger. One Piece won Best Continuing Series and Best Main Character for Monkey D. Luffy. Makoto Shinkai's Suzume was awarded Best Film.



"Anime fans from around the world have spoken and collectively, they cast more votes than in the history of the Anime Awards to crown the 2024 winners," said Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll. "Anime is a powerful force, driving pop culture and connecting global fans and it is a privilege to celebrate and honour this dynamic artform."

Crunchyroll say that the most engaged countries included including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Mexico, Spain and the United States (in alphabetical order). You can watch the archived version of the ceremony on Crunchyroll's YouTube page.
