Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse To Release in 2027

You may remember that when Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse came out back in 2023 the sequel was originally slated to come out the very next summer. But what seemed too good to be true turned out to be just that, and Sony removed Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse from their schedule entirely. Ever since fans have been in limbo, waiting to find out when we might finally get a firm release date.

Now we finally have a date... and it's a case of good news/bad news as we have a date... but it's a long way further off than we would have hoped. Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to hit cinemas on June 4 2027. The news was announced at this year's Cinema Con, the annual convention for cinema owners. Producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson took to the stage in Las Vegas.

“We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back,” they said. “So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.” But Lord promises, “It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.”

Lucky convention goers were treated to first look footage from the threequel. A brief teaser reportedly showcases the trilogy's unique animation style and showed a Miles Morales determined to do things "his way". Gwen Stacy and other Spider-people also make an appearance.

The Spider-Verse trilogy started with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which introduced us to Brooklyn teen Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man. When the Kingpin's collider creates portals between dimensions, Spider-people from alternate dimensions cross into Miles's universe. The sequel Across The Spider-Verse saw Miles leave his own universe, for a multiverse hopping adventure and meet even more spider-peeps.

Lord teased that Miles starts the third film a fugitive from all the other spider-folk in the multiverse (pretty obvious to anyone who has seen the end of the previous film) and that “Gwen and his other friends may or may not be enough to help him save the family that’s been the leading part of the entire system.” Lord and Chris Miller are returning to write the screenplay, with Dave Callaham.

Plot details (beyond that tease) for the third movie are being kept under wraps, but there will be plenty of time to find out more. The trailer hasn't been released to the public just yet, but even so this is exciting news. We can't wait to go back to (and beyond) the Spider-Verse.
