New 'Shaun The Sheep' Episodes Coming to the BBC This May
Fresh from the news that he's getting a third movie, it's been announced that Shaun The Sheep will be returning to the small screen as well. 2025 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the first appearance of Shaun in the Wallace and Gromit Oscar-winning short A Close Shave, and Aardman and the BBC are celebrating with the launch of a new season of his TV series.
The lovable stop-motion sheep starred in his own series which originally ran on CBBC from 2007- 2020. He subsequently featured in the Shaun The Sheep: Adventures From Mossy Bottom series on Netflix, as well as two movies and two half-hour specials. Now he's coming home to the BBC with a brand new seventh season.
The season will consist of 20 episodes and will kick off with Shaun's first ever double-episode Shirleyverse, which will air as a special premiere for the whole family on Saturday, May 24 at 3.30 PM on BBC One, CBBC and BBC iPlayer.
Shirleyverse is a heartwarming tale about learning to value a friend, where everything Shaun knows and loves comes into question when he wishes away his friend Blitzer.
The new series is available on iPlayer from Saturday, May 24, with new episodes airing on CBBC at 7 A.M. weekdays from Monday, May 26.
Chief Creative Director at Aardman, Sarah Cox, said: “It’s a real joy to be marking Shaun the Sheep’s 30th anniversary with brand-new episodes on the BBC — our longtime creative partner. This new series continues to celebrate Shaun and the flock’s unique blend of warm and witty mischief through visual storytelling that aims to entertain all ages.”
Director of BBC Children’s & Education, Patricia Hidalgo, says: “We’re so proud of our longstanding relationship with Aardman, supporting British animation and bringing families more Shaun the Sheep adventures. As you would expect, the new episodes are brilliantly characterised and full of British humour, as we celebrate this very special anniversary year by bringing audiences together to be entertained by Shaun and his pals.”
In celebration of the 30th Anniversary, and as part of the special screening event BBC One will be screening Shaun's first appearance in A Close Shave. The short will screen preceding the new Shaun double episode at 3.00 PM. After the premiere, BBC One will screen the most recent Wallace and Gromit film, the double-BAFTA winning Vengeance Most Fowl.
Meanwhile, on CBBC, viewers can watch the double episode followed by back-to-back episodes and Shaun The Sheep The Movie (5:00 P.M.).
It's not yet clear when viewers outside the UK may get to see the new episodes, but the series airs in more than 170 territories worldwide so it shouldn't be too long a wait.
