Third 'Shaun The Sheep' Movie Announced For 2026
It's been mere months since we saw Aardman Animation's latest release: Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. The double-BAFTA winning feature saw the return of the cheese-loving duo Wallace and Gromit and their nemesis, the evil penguin Feathers McGraw. Now it has been revealed that the stop-motion powerhouse's next film will return to their other big franchise: Shaun The Sheep.
Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom is officially in production and is set to release in 2026. Aardman is partnering with Sky and StudioCanal. Sky is confirmed as the exclusive UK distributor and will release the film in cinemas and on Sky Cinema on Sky TV and NOW. StudioCanal will operate as the global partner outside of the UK.
In The Beast Of Mossy Bottom the residents of Mossy Bottom Farm are looking forward to Halloween. That is, until the clumsy farmer trashes the flock's beloved pumpkin patch. Shaun turns mad scientist to fix the problem and things soon rapidly spiral out of control. With the farmer missing and a wild beast roaming the woods of Mossingham, the scene is set for a monstrously fun adventure.
Shaun The Sheep first appeared in the 1995 Wallace and Gromit short A Close Shave. He was given his own self-titled TV series in 2007, which ran until 2020. 2015 saw his first big screen outing, Shaun The Sheep Movie. It was followed the same year by TV special The Farmer's Llamas, which like the Wallace and Gromit shorts, aired on the BBC over Christmas. A second feature followed in 2019, the sci-fi themed Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. A second TV series (this time for Netflix) followed in 2020, while the Christmas special The Flight Before Christmas brought Shaun back to the BBC in 2021. The Beast Of Mossy Bottom will be the third feature film outing for Aardman's beloved sheep.
The film will be written by Aardman veterans Mark Burton and Giles Pilbrow and directed by Steve Cox (The Flight Before Christmas) and Matthew Walker (Lloyd Of The Flies). Richard Beek is producer, and Nick Park, Peter Lord, Cara Shelly and Sarah Cox as executive producers.
“Shaun the Sheep is an iconic character, beloved by viewers of all ages around the world,” said Sarah Cox, chief creative director at Aardman. “In our new animated movie, we bring family-friendly thrills to this light-hearted, spooky Halloween adventure. Expect smashed pumpkins, wayward science, and a wild hairy beast on the loose in Mossy Bottom – all delivered with the Flock’s trademark joyous comedy.”
“We are so delighted to be in development and pre-production on ‘Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom’ and launching worldwide sales at Cannes,” said StudioCanal’s Anna Marsh and Ron Halpern. “We have taken such pride in establishing Shaun the Sheep and the flock as a cinematic must for audiences across the globe and in this – our third feature film in the franchise – we have a tantalising seasonal hook in Halloween with thrills, spills, surprises, a touch of science and characters old and new. We cannot wait to reveal more of this highly anticipated family treat in the coming months. It’s a genuine pleasure to be back in partnership with Aardman for Shaun’s very welcome return to the big screen.”
