Tim Rice Joins Animated Feature "The Land Of Sometimes".

Part of the appeal of many classic Disney films is their music. And in the case of some of the most beloved Disney Renaissance films, this is in no small part down to the work of Sir Tim Rice. The EGOT-winning (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) writer was responsible for penning the lyrics of the songs of Aladdin and The Lion King (with Sir Elton John). Now, after 25 years, Rice is returning to contribute lyrics to a new animated film.
The Land Of Sometimes is produced by Two Daughters Entertainment and Nottage Productions. Sir Tim has signed on to write three new songs for the feature, which is due to release at the end of 2025. Two Daughters is partnering with major record labels Sony Music Masterworks on the soundtrack album, and Universal Music Publishing Group on the publishing catalogue which includes the original audio book.
“The timeless quality of the storytelling in The Land of Sometimes reminded me of some of the films I’ve enjoyed working on the most,” said Sir Tim Rice. “So this talented team of producers has lured me back to the silver screen after all these years.”
Rice's storied career has seen him collaborate with Andrew Lloyd Webber on stage shows such as Evita, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar, and on screen with Alan Menken (2017's Beauty and The Beast) and Elton John (on The Lion King and The Road To Eldorado).
The cast includes Ewan McGregor, Helena Bonham Carter, Alisha Weir and Jessica Henwick, as well as Sex Education star Asa Butterfield and comedy legend Mel Brooks.
Directed by Leon Joosen, The Land Of Somewhere hopes to become a perennial classic. The film is executive produced by Bonnie Arnold and Alan Yentob, alongside Two Daughters' James Reatchlous, Executive Chairman, and Simon Bobin, CEO, as well as Spencer Pollard of Kaleidoscope Film Distribution.
“I am very confident that The Land of Sometimes will stand proudly among the amazing films Sir Tim’s songs have elevated,” said Reatchlous. “We are truly honoured to have such a legend involved in our movie, his words and music will further bring our enchanted world to life, and I know these songs will endure for many years into the future.”
The film features twins Alfie and Elise, who are whisked away to a wonderous island by the mysterious Wish Collector. There they go on wonderful adventures, meeting mystical creatures and ultimately discover that the greatest wish of all is the enduring strength of family.
International sales are handled by Kaleidoscope Film Distribution, who will be screening clips from the film at the Marché du Film at Festival de Cannes from May 13th to 25th.
Land Of Somewhere is currently in production and is slated to be released later in 2025. More precise details are to be confirmed at a later date.
