Disney Announces 'Hexed', 'Ice Age 6' and More
This past weekend, Disney fans from around the country- and the world- descended on Florida. The state was home to Destination D23: A Journey Around The Worlds Of Disney, held at a new location at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. Among a slate of over 25 fully curated presentations from among the Disney family was the Walt Disney Studios Showcase.
Presented by Yvette Nicole Brown, the showcase featured several major announcements and in-the-room-only clips. Attendees were treated to clips from Zootopia 2, Pixar's Hoppers, and the first three minutes of next year's Toy Story 5.
Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, took to the stage to announce the studio's next film. It's an original by the name of Hexed, and it will be released in November 2026. In the film an awkward teenager and his type-A mum discover just what makes him unusual might just be magical powers that will turn their lives and a secret world of magic, upside down. The film is directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones producing.
Disney also offically announced the details for Ice Age 6. The film will be titled Ice Age: Boiling Point and is described as a "dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat, and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World. The film is due to be released on February 5, 2027.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of its release the original Toy Story is returning to cinemas. The film will be released on September 12, with tickets going on sale September 2.
Several clips were screened from Zootopia 2, which is written and directed by Bush, alongside Byron Howard. It was announced that Yvette Nicole Brown is joining the cast in two cameos. She will appear as The Bearoness and EMT Otter. Also announced was that Patrick Warburton (The Emperor's New Groove, Family Guy) will voice Mayor Winddancer a "charismatic but clueless stallion who dreams of being as heroic in real life as the characters he once played on television."
A new animated feature from the world of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is coming exclusively to Disney+. Introduced by series creator Jeff Kinney, the film is titled Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. Adapted from the third book in Kinney's series, the movie features the return of Greg Heffley. " When laidback Greg finds himself at odds with his dad’s outsized expectations, pressure builds to turn his act around. After a series of hilarious near disasters, Greg’s dad presents him with an ultimatum that just might challenge Greg’s wimpy ways for good. " The film is directed by Matt Danner and written and produced by Jeff Kinney. The cast features Aaron D. Harris as Greg Heffley and Chris Diamantopoulos as Frank Heffley. The Last Straw streams from December 5.
Following the showcase Michael Vargo, head of the D23 Disney fan club announced that D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, will return to Anaheim, California in 2026. On August 14, 15 and 16 fans can be among the first to hear exciting announcements during marquee showcases and presentations and can also look forward to immersive experiences, shopping and "extended magic throughout the week leading up to the event, including the return of D23 Day at Angel Stadium and D23 Day at Disneyland."
