Zootopia 2 Final Trailer Drops

There's a perception of Disney as being a sequel machine. But in fact, 2018's Ralph Breaks The Internet was the first direct sequel from Walt Disney Animation Studios to be released theatrically since The Rescuers Down Under. If there was ever a Disney flick that invited a sequel, then surely it was Zootopia. The world-building was so strong that it just begged out for a return visit to the animal city. The only surprise is that it's taken until 2025 for it to happen.

A new final trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming Zootopia 2. In the trailer, audiences get a first look at new characters, plenty of returning faces and a hidden population of reptiles. Rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) come face-to-face with a mysterious pit viper, Gary De'Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan). The dynamic duo must travel to new unexpected parts of town like the swamp and the desert, where they must go undercover.

Although nine years has passed in the real world, the sequel picks up directly where the first film left off. That means that Nick and Jusy are still rookies and still a new partnership. “In the first film, they were partners for about 48 hours, so there’s a lot more they need to learn about each other,” said writera nd director Jared Bush. “They made it over that first hurdle, but now they have to figure out if they’re really designed to function as a team in the long run. Judy and Nick are very different, and in this film, they’re thrust into a very different scenario that challenges them.”

“We didn’t want Nick to lose all his sharpness and snark. We wanted Judy to keep her idealism. They’re smart characters, so they’re constantly able to one-up each other. People loved their dynamic in Zootopia, so we wanted to continue that" added director Byron Howard.

Judy and Nick developed such a good rapport in the first movie, but now their partnership is going to be tested in an exciting and surprising way,” said head of story Carrie Liao. “Every relationship evolves. What does it really mean to be partners? There’s a big mystery at the centre of Zootopia 2, but at its core, this story is about Judy and Nick’s relationship.”

Zootopia 2 is directed by the Oscar-winning team of Disney Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush and Byron Howard and produced by Yvett Merino. The voice cast includes new additions Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Macaulay Culkin, and Brenda Song appearing as the Lynxleys, one of the most prominent families in Zootopia. Comedian Fortune Feimster joined the cast as Nibbles Maplestick, an oddball beaver with a podcast exploring reptile mysteries. Idris Elba returns as Chief Bogo, the well respected chief of the Zootopia Police Department. Voice acting legend Patrick Warburton joins the cast as actor-turned-politician Mayor Brian Winddancer. Quinta Brunson stars as Dr. Fuzzby, an adorable quokka therapy animal and Nate Torrence reprises his role as Clawhauser, the cheetah receptionist.

The trailer also introduces the new song Zoo performed by Shakira, or in the world of the film Gazelle. The song is written by Ed Sheeran, Blake Slatkin and Shakira. The Zootopia 2 score is composed by Oscar-winner Michael Giacchino. The full soundtrack will be released on November 21.

Zootopia 2 will be released in the United States and Canada on Wednesday, November 26. It will be released in the UK and Ireland (under the title of Zootropolis 2) on November 28.
