'David' Has a Record Breaking Opening
2025 has seen some impressive achievements for animation at the box-office. From Ne Zha 2's incredible $2 billion haul to the record-breaking Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba: Infinity Castle, the medium has been successful around the world. One other film that has breaking records left and right is Angel's new animated feature David.
Based on the life of the Biblical figure who defeated Goliath, and later became King David, the faith-based film opened against the latest Avatar film; Fire and Ash. Something of a David V Goliath fight of its own. In this case David came in second, but took a very impressive $22 million in its opening weekend. This represents the studio's highest grossing opening to date. It also reprersents the highest grossing faith-based animation theatrical opening of all time, surpassing Angel's own King of Kings from earlier this year. Angel has released two of the top grossing animated releases of the year.
Milestones achieved by David during the opening weekend:
- Highest-grossing faith-based animated theatrical opening of all-time (surpassing Angel’s own The King of Kings $19.4 and DreamWorks’ Prince of Egypt)
- Best 3-day theatrical opening in Angel history (surpassing Sound of Freedom’s $19.6 million 3-day opening)
- Angel has now released two of the top ten highest-grossing animated domestic theatrical releases of 2025 (DAVID and The Kings of Kings, with $61 million
