Coyote Vs Acme Gets A Final Trailer

When Warner Bros. merged with Discovery, the new CEO David Zaslav set out on a massive program of cost-cutting. This meant not only job cuts, but the deletion of content. Great swathes of series and films were deleted from streaming to save money. In many cases, they weren't available on Blu-Ray or DVD, so they might as well have been written out of existence.

Then Zaslav went one better and wrote off the nearly completed Batgirl movie for taxes. Saying it wasn't good enough to release, the film was completely scrapped. Under the terms of the clause that allows films to be written off, it can't ever be released in any way. At the same time, Warner Bros Discovery also did the same thing to Scoob sequel Holiday Heist.

Then Zaslav announced plans to do the same to the fully completed animation/live-action hybrid Coyote Vs. ACME. The script had generated quite a lot of buzz. Although the internet had complained about Batgirl and Holiday Heist, this latest outrage was a step too far for many. A passionate #SaveCoyoteVsACME campaign built up on social media, and several filmmakers joined in, as well as the film's cast. Fans clearly wanted to see this movie.

Eventually, WBD were worn down and agreed to sell the rights to another distributor. It was considered by streamers Netflix and Amazon Prime, but was eventually sold to Ketchup Entertainment, who guaranteed a theatrical release.

Fast forward to today, around a month out from the movie's release, and we have a new, final trailer. The trailer gives us our best look at the film so far and gives us an idea of just why there's so much excitement around this movie.

The film follows Wile E. Coyote after a lifetime of trying and failing to capture Roadrunner (meep meep!) He is persuaded by an ambulance-chasing lawyer to take the mighty ACME Corporation to court for creating dangerous products. He takes on a slick corporate lawyer hired by ACME, and along the way encounters several other of his fellow Looney Tunes, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Daffy Duck and Foghorn Leghorn.

The film is a mix of live-action and animation, like a Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the new millennium. However, this time rather than classic 2D animation, the characters are rendered in a kind of hybrid 3D CG (in video games the style is often referred to as "cel shaded"). It does a pretty good job of capturing the classic slapstick of Looney Tunes, so all but the most committed purists should be happy. The human element is looking pretty strong too, with some good gags here. Particularly funny is the encounter between Tweety and John Cena's ACME lawyer Buddy Crane. The trailer even ends with a cheeky nod to the Avengers Doomsday countdown clock.

It's the best trailer so far and has us even more excited to see the film. It looks like it could be the best animated/live-action hybrid since Roger Rabbit- and certainly looks better than Looney Tunes Back In Action or the Space Jam films.
