DreamWorks Animation's 'Trolls' Gets Its First Full Trailer

We think it's fair to say that the news that DreamWorks Animation was making a movie based on the Trolls toyline was met with no small amount of bemusement. The first teaser, while still not quite justifying its existence, at least showed us the film would have an appealing visual style. Earlier this year footage was screened at Cannes to surprisingly positive buzz, and now we have the first full trailer to get a better idea of what to expect.

Visually, the film certainly has something, with a bright, colourful look. There's some interesting use of textures too, that gives everything a hand-made feel. Some people like to criticise DWA film for all looking similar, but they really seem to have gone in a whole new direction here.

Outside the animation itself though, things are not looking quite so sure. Plot wise this is looking fairly unoriginal, with the plucky trolls being menaced by a hostile species called the Bergens. There's clearly going to be a lot of emphasis on the music here, with it being a big part of this trailer. Whether the music will appeal to you though, will be an entirely personal matter. The same will be the case with the humour, which -based on this trailer at least- is not looking exactly subtle. This could be good or it could be the equivalent of being shut in a room with four overexcited children on a sugar high for an hour and a half.  But if cup-cake based poop jokes are your thing, then this could be the film you've been waiting for.You can check out the trailer, and judge for yourself below,

Trolls stars the voices of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani and Zooey Deschanel and will hit cinemas in the UK October 21st, with the US release following on November 4th.
