Tickets on sale for Animation Nights New York: Best of Fest



The time is fast approaching for the return of Animation Nights New York (ANNY) Best of Fest.

Some of the best animated shorts that have come through the monthly ANNY screenings will be presented as a part of a two day symposium for both local and visiting animation lovers. It is an event that allows both students and industry veterans to mingle, discuss their work, experience the latest in virtual reality animation, participate in industry focused panels, admire artwork inspired by the medium and sit back to enjoy well animated shorts from all around the world.

If you are looking to stop by, here is the information you need to know.

The symposium takes place on Friday & Saturday, September 29-30, from 12 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Out of the 175 films selected for the Animation Nights New York curated monthly screenings, 20 have been chosen by a panel of judges for the ANNY Best of Fest. The main screening event will take place on Saturday September 30th, at 7 p.m. & 8 p.m. The panel judges include: Debra Solomon (Independent Animator, Academy Member), Phil Weinstein (Animation Director, Disney), and Dayna Gonzalez (Jumping Tadpole Productions, Former ASIFA East President). Andrew Gordon (Pixar) is selecting the ANNY Best of Fest Grand Prize Winner. Animation for Adults and Art in Motion awards will also be announced.

All ANNY Best of Fest filmmakers will receive a one year subscription to ToonBoom, a one year subscription to Stash, a one year subscription to Craft, and may be eligible for distribution via Shorts HD, if applicable. Our Grand Prize winner and Animation for Adults Award winner will each receive a gift from Wacom!

During the day there will also be a fine art installation, Art in Motion II, curated by Anderson Contemporary. The exhibit includes original work from artists and animators including Ian Sullivan, Bill Plympton, and John Dilworth, and M. Henry Jones. Also returning from last year is the Virtual Reality Animation Showcase, featuring work from VR pioneers including Baobab Studios, Penrose Studios, Jakob Steensen, Theo Ushev, Pirahna, Double Fine, Within, ToBeWithHamlet, SVA and showcasing work from the Animation Nights New York VR selections. 

Opening Reception will take place on Wed, Sept 13, 6p.m. -8 p.m.

For budding animators or veterans looking to enrich their work, Best of Fest has professional panels scheduled throughout the two days. Some of which include: Puppetry and Motion Capture in Animation, Surviving and Thriving as a Freelancer, Pitching Animation, and several more focusing on various aspects of virtual reality and animation

Last but not certainly not least, Best of Fest will also be featuring Speed Pitching sessions for artists and directors looking to work one on one with industry representatives. In addition to software demonstrations that will allow aspiring animators to get a look at the latest animation programs. Animators who will be in the NYC area can submit their reels/ideas to info@animationnights.com to participate in the ANNY Best of Fest Speed Pitching Blocks.

Tickets are sold in two packages. The Enthusiast Package, which offers free access to the first floor Screenings, professional panels and fine art installation. If you wish to gain full access to everything Best of Fest has to offer, the Industry Package will not only give you access to the above, but will also allow you to pre-register for the VR Showcase and the special industry events. The Industry package will also include Loot bags while supplies last.
