'Trollhunters' Universe Expanding With 'Tales Of Arcadia'

Guillermo del Toro's Trollhunters was reportedly Netflix's biggest ever kids launch when the first season arrived last year. The second season is set to arrive on December 15 and will hope to build on that huge success. The trailer for the new series was recently released- check it out below.

But that is not the end of the story. At an event to premiere the first two episodes of season 2, GDT this week announced that the Trollhunters universe is about to get a whole lot bigger. Trollhunters is to be just the beginning of what will be an interconnected trilogy of series from DreamWorks Animation called Tales Of Arcadia.

The second series is titled 3 Below and will feature two alien teenage royals and their bodyguard who are stranded on Earth following a coup. The first season will hit Netflix in 2018.

The third part of the trilogy is Wizards which will arrive in 2019, and will apparently bring all three series together. resulting in an epic battle. The three series will share a mythology and will be connected by taking place in the same town- the titular Arcadia. Apparently, the seeds of the expanded universe were already being planted in the first season of Trollhunters- this has been in the works for some time.

It's not yet clear if each series will have a limited run or if they will run concurrently, in a similar style to Netflix's Marvel shows. In other words, we're not sure if 3 Below will be instead of a third season of Trollhunters or if we'll get both. Wizards is set to be a culmination- but does that mean it will also bring the trilogy to a close?
