Cartoon Saloon Developing 'Mebh and The Wolf Pups', Wolfwalkers Spin-Off

It's been a while since we've written about Cartoon Saloon, the Kilkenny, Ireland-based studio behind Wolfwalkers and Song Of The Sea. 2026 is set to be a big year for the three-times Oscar-nominated studio. A short time ago, their co-produced TV series My Brother The Minotaur was released on Apple TV; this June, their new movie Julian is set to premiere at the Annecy Festival, and now it has emerged a new TV series is in development at the studio.

The series is a spin-off from their Oscar-nominated movie Wolfwalkers. Mebh And The Wolf Pups will focus on the film's co-lead Mebh, and the litter of wolf pups she lives with. The series is being led by director Jeremy Purcell (Puffin Rock and The New Friends), with a screenplay by Cian McGarrigle. The series will be co-produced by Mélusine.

Mebh And The Wolf Pups will be pitched at the upcoming Cartoon Forum trade show in September, in France.

Mebh is a wild, adventurous young girl, a Wolfwalker! Her pack is made up of four regular wolf pups, each with its own distinct personality. This gang of friends explore the forest, make new friends, and help the other animals they share a home with - friendly mice and squirrels, a grumpy badger and more. Full of mischief, Mebh and the Wolf Pups often cause mayhem with their boisterous fun but, when Mebh transforms into a wolf, she connects with nature and her environment allowing her and her pals to solve any problem! There is a huge woodland out there for Mebh and the Pups to explore, filled with friends to meet and no end of adventure!

All other details are being kept under wraps for now, and it's too early to say when we might expect it. But any new project from the guys and girls at Cartoon Saloon is reason enough to be excited- a spin-off from arguably their best movie, doubly so. You can be sure we'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
