First Trailers and New Images Arrive For LAIKA's 'Missing Link'

We were kept waiting for years for the first information on LAIKA's next movie. The news finally came back in April and now, with the film just months away from hitting our cinema screens, the first trailer is here... in fact, we've got two.

Missing Link is written and directed by ParaNorman helmer Chris Butler, with LAIKA founder Travis Knight producing. The film features adventurer Sir Lionel Frost (voiced by Hugh Jackman) as he tries to track down the legendary creature known as the Missing Link.  The creature he finds, turns out to be more than he could have imagined,  and Frost discovers Mr Link (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) is a "slightly silly, surprisingly smart and soulful beast." Mr Link is also lonely, and together they set off to find the fabled valley of Shangri-La, where he hopes he will find his long-lost relatives.

The trailers are in the form of the UK "international teaser" and the full US official Trailer.

As for the former, as a teaser trailer, there's not too much to it. However, we get a good look at our central characters and a little taste of the film's tone. There's also a hint here of the story's globe-trotting scope, which promises to be a major part of the film. We get to see an early encounter between Frost and Link, and see them setting off on their adventure.

The US trailer is significantly longer and gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the film as a whole. Although it still features Link and Frost's encounter,  we see much more of Frost's adventures and a variety of different location. We are also introduced to the film's feisty female lead Adelina Fortnight, voiced by Zoe Saldana.

The animation looks extremely accomplished, as you would expect from LAIKA, although we know this is only scratching the surface of what is sure to be their most ambitious film to date.

Missing Link arrives in US cinemas April 12, 2019 via Annapurna pictures. Lionsgate will release the film in the UK on April 5. Check out the trailer, plus a new poster and image, below.
