Watch This: Wonderful 'Miyazaki Tribute' by Dono

Not so long ago, we featured a short animation from a French animator that paid homage to the work of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Now another has come along, although this is an entirely different style of tribute video. While the earlier work saw the animator tip the hat to his idol through original creations, in the case of this short by Dono, the film-maker uses actual footage from Miyazaki films themselves.

The characters from Miyazaki films, such as Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle and more are integrated with CG backgrounds to great effect. It comes across almost as if all Miyazaki's creations are frolicking together in some wonderful world of their own. There's even room for Lupin III from Miyazaki's often overlooked debut Castle Of Cagliostro to get a look in- and even Sherlock Hound!

As a perfect topper, it even features the music of Joe Hisaishi, giving it that perfect Miyazaki feel. It's an impressive piece of work, even more so when you consider that it's made mainly with public-domain software such as Blender and Gimp. Check out the short below.
