Anime Expo News Round Up

This past weekend saw the 2016 Anime Expo take place in Los Angeles. As the biggest anime-focused convention in North America, it's traditionally also the place that many of the US anime and manga companies choose to unveil their future plans. This year's event was no exception, and dozens of new licenses and updates were announced. Check out the highlights here.


  • Viz Media announced that the hugely popular One Punch Man is being dubbed and will screen on Adult Swim's Toonami from July 16th. They will also be releasing Sailor Moon S on Blu-ray and DVD this November. Viz will also release part one of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure: Phantom Blood on Blu-ray.
  • Streaming service Crunchyroll is to begin dubbing and releasing some of its licences on Blu-ray and DVD.  The initial line-up includes Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Beserk, Twin Star Excorcist, and Gintama. Kabaneri is particularly surprising as it is currently available only on Amazon Prime.

  • Funimation has picked up the North American rights to the second Ghost In The Shell feature Innocence.  They will also release the new Makoto Shinkai feature Your Name both theatrically and later on Blu-ray and DVD.  They also announced that they have picked up streaming and home video rights for Show By Rock Short and Drifters- the new series from Hellsing creator Kouta Hirano,
  • Streaming service Daisuki unveiled plans to launch a premium service in North America this summer.
  • Sentai Filmworks announced dubs for seven of its titles: Ushio and Tora, GATE, Food Wars, Himoto Umaru Chan, Amagi Brilliant Park, Monster Musume and Is it Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in A Dungeon?
