GKIDS Bring 'Miss Hokusai' to US This October

2016 has been an amazing year for independent animation distributor GKIDS. They picked up another two Academy Award nominations, brought a lost Ghibli classic to new audiences, and announced a move into co-production. They aren't going to rest on their laurels though and have picked up yet another acclaimed film to bring to North American Audiences.

Miss Hokusai comes from the acclaimed studio Production IG and director Keiichi Hara. It's a fictionalised biography of the woman known as O-Ei, the daughter of legendary Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, and an accomplished artist in her own right.

The film previously won the Jury prize at the 2015 Annecy Festival, and is now being considered a contender to be on the 2017 Oscar best-animated feature shortlist.

Miss Hokusai will open in New York and Los Angeles on October 14th, before a wider national release. Other release details are currently unknown- including what formats they will be screening the film in.

UK rights for the film are held by Anime Limited who originally planned to release the film subtitled only earlier this year, but it was later mysteriously delayed. According to Amazon it will now be released in November.
