'Spirited Away' Will Return to US Cinemas For 3 Nights Only [updated]

You wait ages for exciting Studio Ghibli news then two stories come along at once. Hot on the heels of the news that Hayao Miyazaki may be making a new feature comes the announcement that his classic Spirited Away will be returning to cinemas in the US for a two-night special event this December.

GKIDS Films has partnered with Fathom Events to see Miyazaki's Oscar winner back on the big screen to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The film will screen in English dubbed format on Sunday December 4th and in original subtitled version on Monday December 5th 2016.

[UPDATE]: Due to high demand GKIDS have announced that a third date has been added- Thursday December 8th.

If you've never had the chance to see this classic projected on the big screen, this will be a wonderful opportunity. What's more it will be part of a program that will also include a short Ghiblies Episode 2 making its American debut.

Ghiblies is a 25 minute short that offers a comic spin on life behind the scenes at Ghibli.  It was originally released in Japan alongside The Cat Returns, but has never been screened in US Cinemas until now.

You can find details of participating venues and book tickets from here.

GKIDS have also partnered with Hot Topic to create a range of Spirited Away 15th Anniversary designs - check them out here.
