'My Life As A Zucchini' Scores Cesar Award Nomination Hat-Trick

The Cesars, handed out by the French Academy, are France's answer to the Oscars. As with most of its international brethren, The Cesars has two animation specific categories- the Best Animated Feature and Animated Short. This year, however, one animated film has broken out and managed to pick up an amazing three nominations on this year's shortlist.

The Franco-Swiss production My Life As A Zucchini (known as My Life As A Courgette in its original version) has been having a pretty good week. Fresh from its Oscar nomination it also bagged a Best Animated Feature nomination at the Cesars. Even more impressively, it also won nominations in the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score categories.

The other two nominees in the Feature category were the Studio Ghibli co-production The Red Turtle from Michael Dudok de Wit and The Girl Without Hands. The latter, from director Sebastien Laudenbach is a Brothers Grimm-inspired folk-tale made in a unique style, due for US release from GKIDS Films sometime this year.

The nominations for animated short are Cafe Froid, Celui Qui a Deux Ames, Journal Anime and Peripheria.

The ceremony will take place on February 24th 2017.
